Jiu Zhai Gou National Park is a picturesque valley, complete with lakes, waterfalls and smaller ponds. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The valley is home to Tibetan people - the name Jiu ZHai Gou means "The Valley of Nine Villages".

Hiking
The valley has a network of walking tracks that allows walkers to see most of the sites. The park can appear crowded in summer, as buses ferry the tourists between the main sites. Step away from the dropoff points and walk along the paths and you'll find yourself mostly alone - it seems that most visitors do not have the time or inclination to step away from the dropoff and pickup points.
Getting There
See the destinations information for the details. The park is close to the township of Zhangzha, and this town can be accessed by road by taxi or bus from the airport, or by bus from Chengdu.
Other Notes
There are four main valleys - Rize Valley, Zechawa Valley, Shuzheng Valley and Zharu Valley. Most visitors to the park visit the first three valleys. Zharu Valley has only recently been opened to smaller numbers of visitors for those who wish to go hiking and camping.
